Special Message from Mayor Ron Harris

Message from Carroll Valley Mayor Ron Harris:

I have been told that the current Carroll Valley Borough Building construction was completed on May 30, 1977, forty years ago. Our new Carroll Valley Community & Education Complex building will be finished and the keys turned over to the Borough before March 1st, on schedule. Because of the poor condition of the old building, it will be demolished. However, before this happens, I would like to invite our residents and friends, especially those who were around during the dedication of this old borough office to attend a “Good Bye and Farewell” pictorial event. This special pictorial event will be held on Saturday 18th at 10:00 a.m. in front of the Borough building with a snow/rain date of Saturday 25th at 10:00 a.m. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call me (301) 606-2021 or email at MayorRonHarris@comcast.net.

Snowflakes & Snowmen Dinner Dance

With tables adorned by pink poinsettias, white candles surrounded by pine rings, glittering “Snowflakes” and ceramic “Snowmen”, the Dinner Dance and Silent Auction sponsored by the Carroll Valley Citizen’s Association (CVCA) was enjoyed by one hundred plus people on Friday Evening, December 11th. As they arrived, guests were honored with a souvenir glass of champagne, served by Liberty Staff Members.

Amid the warmth of a glowing fireplace and a beautifully decorated Christmas Tree in The Overlook Ballroom of the newly built Highland Lodge at Liberty Resorts, the attendees enjoyed a delicious dinner of Top Round Roasted Beef, Herb Crusted Salmon, Browned Baby Red Potatoes, Brandied Carrots, Green Beans with Roasted Red Peppers, Mixed Green Salad, warm Rolls and Butter, and a choice of dessert which included Chocolate Mousse, Apple Pie, and Strawberry Shortcake.

Music appropriate for dinner, and later for dancing, was provided by DJ Donnie Smith Entertainment from Hagerstown. Santa appeared to greet the group, read a season-related poem / story and distributed Door Prizes and Candy Canes. Musselman’s Greenhouse in Cashtown donated the pink poinsettias which were also given as gifts to attendees.

The Silent Auction included items donated by Dorothea Barrick, Marie Schwartz, Ron Harris, Kathy McCabe, Bill & Stephanie DeVoe, Jack Handshaw, Michael McCabe, Jester’s Computers, Another Chance Thrift Shop, Mountain View Realty, and gift certificates from Main Street Cutiery, Liberty Resorts, Carriage House, Ventura’s Restaurant, Hickory Bridge Farm, and Village Table Restaurant.

An opportunity to pay membership dues was available to guests as they entered the ballroom to help rejuvenate CVCA instead of it being disbanded as was projected. CVCA was founded in 1973 to organize the required information for the formation of the Borough of Carroll Valley from the defunct Charnita Recreation Resort. Membership dues of $10.00; which is open to anybody who lives or has property in the area; can be mailed to CVCA P O Box 302, Fairfield, PA 17320.

Thanks to all who attended this successful Dinner Dance & Silent Auction; donated time, talent, or some object; became a member of CVCA; had a great evening with friends; and are looking forward to other such social events. Marie & Mary, Co-chairs

CVCA Yard Sale Pictures

It was a brisk and windy day on Saturday for the Carroll Valley Citizens Association Yard Sale. About 45 spaces were taken with nearly every item you could imagine!  The wind kept it interesting – tents and canopies had to be staked down well. Thanks for all those who helped hold ours down until the stakes were in, and also when the wind whipped up again as we were bringing the tent down.

As usual, Ron did a great job!  Head on over to the gallery page and check them out, and for more pictures by Ron go to www.ronspictures.net.

The next yard sale will be in September, stay tuned!

Mayor & Manager Meeting Pictures

DSC_0234The Mayor and Manager dinner meeting for 2014 was very well attended and enjoyable. Mayor Ron was regretably unable to attend due to illness – we wish him a speedy recovery!  The meal and conversation were wonderful, and Dave Hazelette gave a very informative presentation.  Several door prizes were handed out (donated by Michael and Kathy McCabe from Hilltop Arts.)
